About Us
Mot Centre

Welcome to our website.

At the start of 2009, we began implementing a smart new website to reflect our smart new premises: and here it is! We've been working hard to improve our online store: providing a massive range of new and used machines.

Our parts and accessories section also has a wide selection of essential and hard-to-find parts with good descriptions, large images and easy to use compatibility charts.  If there's anything you can't find, or if you need advice on fitting parts, simply click on the 'Contact Us' button at the top of the page, or call us on 01226 391557. We here at B+B continue to take an active participation in most sporting activities ranging from road racing, supermoto, mx and trials. So don't hesitate to contact us, as we are always happy to pass on our experience, support and knowledge to anyone.

B+B Motorcycles - Racing Days

B+B Road & Trials - the history behind the name...

B+B Road and Trials has come a long way since starting out as Mercer's Motorcycles in 1957. The high street premises in Royston (Barnsley) was home to Mercer's for 14 years until the shop was bought by the two B's; Bob Stephenson and Bill Wright. Mercer's became B+B Motorcycles in 1971 and Bob and Bill continued trading for over a decade. Meanwhile, John Kaye had been working in the Barnsley mines for several years. When the industry went to the wall in the eighties, John, like so many others, was made redundant and forced to look elsewhere for a living. For a long time, he'd had a passion for racing motorcycles so, when he lost his job, he chose to turn this passion into a new source of full time employment.

John bought B+B Motorcycles in 1984 and the family business was born. He and his son, Tony, started work in the workshop, whilst Tony's mum, Pam, ran the shop front. Aptly, for a family firm, it was Tony's passion for trials bikes that would eventually provide a new direction for his dad's business. He was a frequent competitor in lots of trials events including local and national championships, 14 Scottish 6-day trials and 6 Scott trials (the toughest of them all!). His love for the trials world turned B+B Motorcycles into B+B Road and Trials and the business began to sell and maintain both road and trials bikes.

It was clear that John's move into the motorcycle industry had been a successful one. Having spent 20 years in the business, he and Pam retired, selling the firm to Tony and his wife Kerry, in 2005. B+B's continued to grow under Tony and Kerry's management; so much so that, in January 2007, the family firm moved out of the original Mercer's Motorcycles premises, in Royston, and into a new, spacious unit at the other side of Barnsley, in Barugh Green.

Now, in 2009, B+B Road and Trials is still a true family firm; based on a passion for competition and a shared love for bikes. Tony and the workshop staff continue to compete in many different events, including road racing, supermoto, mx and trials and are always happy to pass on experience, support and knowledge to anyone.
